Universal plastic card – admission to a student life

UZCARD and Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on February 28, 2022 in order to further introduce of digital technologies into the educational process, establish mutually beneficial cooperation, and develop the country’s gifted youth.

The subject of the Memorandum is development of cooperation in the field of modern information financial technologies, as well as design solutions in the area of educational activities, works and research, which are of priority importance for further formation and development of information society in the Republic of Uzbekistan. In addition, under the Memorandum, joint projects will be aimed at capacity building of students and employees in the field of information and communication technologies, arranging joint events, guest lectures and master classes in relevant areas of cooperation, attracting students for internships, development of practical skills, training to work in the field of information and financial technologies.

In 2021, in pursuance of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dd. October 8, 2019 No. UP-5847 “On approval of the concept for development of higher education system of the Republic of Uzbekistan till 2030”, within the framework of bilateral cooperation, ATTO, which is a subsidiary of UZCARD, and Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent, launched an important joint innovation project for issue of universal student plastic cards integrated with the public transport fare system.

Today, new student cards allow university students to use them not only when paying for transport, but also to use the internal functionality of the university – at the entrance to the building, within the territory, as well as when taking books in the library.

Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent became the first university to introduce the universal student card – a social tool that is now a convenient product of innovative digital technologies, which enabled the university administration to ensure safety of students and set up the automated attendance record system.

UZCARD and Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent invite the country’s universities to join the new product, optimize management of educational process, and potentially upgrade the quality of education and life of their students!

Reference information

During 2021, over 80,000 student cards were registered when paying for public transport in Tashkent. The average monthly payments using the cards totalled 1.6 million transactions. The total number of payments with these cards reached 19.7 million transactions.

The student cards became the most popular among preferential transport cards last year. Their share reached 68%. It is followed by pension and student transport cards showing 18% and 14% shares, respectively.
