UZCARD took part in the 2nd International PLUS-Forum Uzbekistan 2022 “Banks and Retail. Digital Transformation and Interaction”, which was held in Tashkent on May 25-26. The forum was dedicated to digital business transformation and promoting international cooperation in banking and financial technologies.
Timur Azadov, Deputy General Director for Strategic Development of the Common Republican Processing Center (CRPC), presented a report at the forum titled “Common Automated System of Electronic Ticketing – A Driver for Increasing Cashless Culture”. In his speech, he spoke about UZCARD’s many years of achievements and its role as the core of the cashless payment system in large-scale projects for the development and integration of various automation systems.
One significant project highlighted was the launch of a cashless payment system in public transport, implemented by ATTO LLC, a subsidiary of UZCARD. This project marked a breakthrough in the adoption of advanced technologies in Uzbekistan. Cashless payment methods in public transport are considered the most critical segment for implementation due to the speed of transaction processing and service in retail.
In collaboration with O-City, part of the international holding BPC Group, a software and hardware complex was developed for an automated electronic ticketing system based on ABT (account-based ticketing) technology. ABT is an innovative system for fare payment in public transport and micro-payments based on the user’s personal account. It allows the use of both transport cards and contactless bank cards for fare payment. Given the convenience of this system, developed by leading specialists in the field of contactless payments, special attention was paid to security and the development of the correct scheme for implementing this system in transport companies, minimizing human factor involvement.
Timur Azadov shared the current results of ATTO, which fundamentally optimized transport operations in the capital, Urgench, Karshi, and Gulistan, improved passenger service quality, and reduced social tension during peak hours. He also outlined the company’s future plans, which include scaling the automated electronic ticketing system project throughout Uzbekistan. This expansion involves not only geographical coverage but also the inclusion of new types of transport. Currently, specialists from the Ministry of Transport are working on integrating the system with the segment of railway passenger transport. Additionally, a unified portal for electronic ticket sales in the aviation, rail, and intercity bus transport segments is being developed.
In conclusion, Azadov emphasized that, as the operator of a
payment system with a long history, UZCARD will continue to focus on the further widespread development of cashless payments and the implementation of modern automated systems that will make the lives of Uzbekistan’s citizens as comfortable as possible.
