UZCARD payment system and AFIN have signed a memorandum of strategic partnership to develop routing and tokenization technologies for payment instruments and to introduce elements of Open Banking in Uzbekistan.<\/p>\n
The document confirms the parties\u2019 readiness to jointly build a new technological architecture that will enhance the security, interoperability, and mobility of next-generation financial services.<\/p>\n
The initiative concerns the launch of a new generation of cards based on tokenization \u2014 a technology in which the card\u2019s actual credentials are replaced with a unique digital identifier (a token). The token is used to make payments, while the card data itself is not transmitted, which significantly reduces the risk of breaches and data leaks for both online and offline payments.<\/p>\n
The project will be among the first at scale in Central Asia to implement card tokenization and will pave the way for a full-fledged next-generation digital payments ecosystem.<\/p>\n
One key feature of the upcoming cards is agnostic architecture: the same payment instrument (card, sticker, wristband, or any other form factor) can be used with different banks, mobile wallets, and financial apps without re-issuing the card or re-linking. A user will be able to first select a memorable 16-digit card number (token) and then choose and link a bank.<\/p>\n
Thanks to tokens, users gain greater freedom and convenience with maximum data protection: a token is bound to a specific device or application and cannot be used by intruders elsewhere.<\/p>\n
Businesses and banks, in turn, benefit from higher security, stability, and compatibility of payments across the entire UZCARD infrastructure.<\/p>\n
The signing of the UZCARD\u2013AFIN memorandum marks a new step in developing the country\u2019s fintech infrastructure and reaffirms Uzbekistan\u2019s commitment to innovation and the digital transformation of its financial sector in line with international standards.<\/p>\n
